Abstract
Kurzfassung: Afraster scalariformis n. gen. et sp., aus der oberen Kreide (Coniac) von Angola, SW-Afrika, wird in die Pedicellasterinae, eine Unterfamilie der Asteriidae gestellt. Eine assoziierte Foraminiferenfauna ist beherrscht von planktischen Arten; schelfbewohnende Lageniden sind jedoch auch nachgewiesen. Die Unterfamilie Pedicellasterinae zeichnet sich gegenüber den sonst für die Familie typischen vier Reihen Podia dadurch aus, daß sie nur zwei Reihen aufweist. Eine enge Assoziation vonAfraster mit Austern läßt auf eine Ernährung schließen, die typisch für moderne Astenden ist; die Anordnung von Scheibe und Armen deutet ebenfalls auf dieses Verhalten hin.Afraster ist der Erstnachweis eines fossilen Seesterns aus Angola.
